21 de August de 2026The 2025-2026 tobacco crop began with a projection of more than 160,000 tareas planted and 400,000 quintals, according to INTABACO. The plan covers 29 tobacco-growing zones in 15 provinces.
Diverse production
The program includes Criollo, Andullo, Havanensis and Dominican Olor tobaccos, as well as wrapper varieties. This diversity supports different flavor and strength profiles in premium cigars.
Employment, exports and knowledge
INTABACO highlighted technical support for soil preparation, planting, harvesting and cigar making, along with training and access to financing. It also reported annual production above 131 million premium cigars and distribution to more than 140 markets.
From farm to cigar
Volume is only part of the story. Dominican tobacco depends on cultivation, curing, fermentation, selection and skilled rolling. Modernization must preserve that craft knowledge while improving consistency and traceability.
